*Adjusts bow tie* Mornin' folks!
You know when you're online & you come across one of those websites that you just have to stop & appreciate how damn cool it is? Yeah, well that was Style the Natives. I can't really describe the website/magazine to you except that one word: Cool.
Amazing interviews, features & photo shoots.
Amazing interviews, features & photo shoots.
It's a website you want to stay on & read for hours & hours.
Being the curious mind I am, I immediately wanted to get to know a little more about the lady behind this blog, Charly Cox. I wrote Charly and she said she'd be happy to let me do this little feature & interview with her & man was I stoked.
Q: When did you start writing & how did you develop a passion for it?
C: Oh gosh I've loved writing since forever. I love words and learning new ones, I've always been mad on the idea that you can layer interesting vocabulary into intricate sentences. I think I must've smacked my head one day and woken up believing I was the love child of Sylvia Plath and Caitlyn Moran.Q: How many people help run Style the Natives & what are all their purposes?
C: It's mostly me, I'm always updating the tumblr and twitter accounts and designing new text graphics for the blog, as well as writing the posts!
I've taken on a few really lovely girls who write up posts and go out and do photoshoots occasionally, my right hand is Lizzie Baxter who lives over in Australia. It's incredible how someone can be on the other side of the world to you and still always be there when you need them!
Q:Where do you draw inspiration from pertaining to the kinds of people you like to interview, or topics you want to cover or anything you write about?
C: Magazines are my first and main love, I'm obsessed with publications such as Wonderland, ID, Dazed and Confused and Russh so I draw a lot of inspiration from those. I try and interview new upcoming talent that I've discovered online or at gigs I've attended, I love the idea of giving a platform to those who were yet to find one- or sharing a talent that I found somewhere in London with people as far as the US or Australia.
I try and mix it up and throw in some personal posts occasionally, initially it was absolutely terrifying, but it's amazing to know that others relate to stupid situations you find yourself in!
Q: What inspired creating styles the natives & the name?
C: Originally I started Style The Natives through my love of the Kings Road in Chelsea, I wanted to document the street style and where all the best local places were. I adored the culture and the people that lived and dined there, it's still my favourite place in London.
'Style The Natives' is a play on the idea of 'local fashion and 'dressing up the locals'.
Q: And what are somethings you hope to see accomplished through the site?
C: I hope it grows as a platform for new talent and my bizarro musings, I'm so overwhelmed with how many people have jumped on board with it and have expressed praise, if I can retain that then I'll be very happy. As long as it keeps stretching me as a writer and a creative and inspires an audience, that's it's sole purpose.
Style the Natives is certainly a huge inspiration to me & what I'd like to do as well.
I loved getting to talk to Charly & she is one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of interviewing. It's always really cool to get to speak to the people behind amazing blogs, and learn a bit more about them.
I don't know, it just kind of adds a sprinkle of authenticity that makes something all the more special.
So do yourself a favour & go read stylethenatives.com ! You won't regret it & let me know when you have down in the comments!
